How much does a website cost in Australia?
By Felipe, Synergic Pro · Updated 15 October 2026
A small business website in Australia costs anywhere from about $20 a month on a DIY builder to $20,000 or more from a large agency. Most custom websites for small businesses land between $1,500 and $5,000, plus a monthly fee for hosting and upkeep.
We're a web studio in Brisbane, and we publish our prices: a custom website costs $1,500 to $4,000 with us, and the care plan that keeps it running is $79 a month. Below is what each type of site costs, what moves the price up or down, and what to ask before you sign anything.
What a website costs, by type of site
Our prices for the sites small businesses ask us for most, in AUD. Each project gets a fixed quote in writing before any work starts.
| Type of site | What's in it | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Simple business site | 1 to 5 pages in one language: home, services, about and contact. Right for a consultant, an accountant or a business that's just starting. | $1,500 - $2,000 |
| Tradie website | A page for each service you offer, a quote request form that asks for the details you need, a gallery of finished jobs and a link to your Google reviews. | $2,000 - $3,000 |
| Professional services site | 6 to 10 pages, in English and Spanish or with a blog. Law firms, clinics and practices that offer several services, each with its own page. | $2,500 - $4,000 |
| Site connected to a booking tool | Your website, with bookings handled by a tool you already use, such as Fresha, Cliniko or Calendly. Priced as a website: the tool's own fee is separate. | $1,500 - $4,000 |
| Your own booking system | Bookings, payments, client logins and an admin panel built for your business, with no commission per booking. That's custom software, not a website. | from $3,000 |
After launch, the care plan is $79 a month for any of the websites above. The full price list for every service is on our pricing page.
How much does a website cost in Australia?
Prices across the market fall into three broad groups. These are rough ranges, not quotes from anyone in particular, and you'll find people charging more and less than this.
| Who builds it | What you get | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|
| A website builder, yourself | Wix, Squarespace and similar: a monthly subscription, a template and your own time. A good way to start; the writing, design and setup are on you. | $20 - $60/month |
| A freelancer with a template | A theme, often on WordPress, adapted to your logo and colours. Cheaper upfront; keeping the plugins updated becomes your job or a monthly fee. | $1,000 - $3,000 |
| An agency | A team with a strategist, a designer and developers, workshops and rounds of revisions. Worth it for large sites, and more than most small businesses need. | from $5,000 |
We sit between the last two. You get design and code made for your business, as an agency would do it, at a price closer to a freelancer's: $1,500 to $4,000 for a website, and from $3,000 when the project is custom software rather than a site.
Whichever way you go, compare quotes on the same scope. A $1,200 quote and a $6,000 quote are often for different things: one covers a template and five pages you write yourself, the other covers the writing, the photos, ten pages and a year of hosting.
What moves the price of a website?
Five things decide most of the price. The first is the number of pages: a five-page site is less work than a ten-page one, and every page needs its own design, text and title for Google. The second is languages. A site in English and Spanish is close to two sites' worth of pages, though the design is shared.
The third is content. If you supply the text and photos, the price stays lower; if they have to be written or found for you, it goes up. The fourth is what the site has to do. A contact form and a blog are standard. Bookings, payments and client logins turn the project into custom software, with its own price.
The fifth is how the site is built. A template is quicker to set up and costs less on day one. A site designed and built from scratch costs more upfront, but it's made for your business and there are no plugins to keep patching. We build that way, with Next.js, and it's why our sites are fast on a phone.
What does a website cost per month?
Once a site is live, three costs keep coming. The domain name (yourbusiness.com.au) is usually $20 to $40 a year, registered in your name so it's always yours. Then there's hosting, the server that sends your pages to visitors, and the upkeep: security updates, the SSL certificate that puts the padlock in the browser, backups, and someone to call when something needs changing.
Our care plan covers all of the upkeep for $79 a month: managed hosting, the SSL certificate, security updates, backups, monitoring and up to 2 hours of small changes every month. There's no lock-in contract, and if you cancel, the code goes with you.
How much does a tradie website cost?
With us, a tradie website costs $2,000 to $3,000. That covers a page for each service (painting, plastering, roofing, whatever you do), a quote request form that asks for the suburb, the job and photos, a gallery of finished work, and a link that sends happy customers to your Google reviews.
Where it lands in that range depends mostly on how many services and areas you want pages for. A painter with three services sits near $2,000. A builder with eight services and a project gallery for each sits near $3,000. We recently relaunched the site of Queensland Residential Painters, a Brisbane painting business, and websites for tradies walks through what goes into one.
Website or custom software: which one do you need?
A website tells people who you are and gets them to call, message or book. If bookings already run through a tool you like, we connect it and the project stays a website, from $1,500.
If you want bookings, payments, gift cards or a client portal of your own, with no commission on every booking and your data in one place, that's custom software, from $3,000. Latin Temple Beauty, a med spa in Stones Corner, is one: bookings, a client portal and gift cards in one platform.
Is a cheap website worth it?
Sometimes, yes. If you're testing an idea or need something online this week, a $30-a-month builder is a sensible start, and you can replace it once the business proves itself.
Where cheap gets expensive is in the details people don't check. A site that's slow on a phone loses visitors before they read anything. A domain registered in the designer's name can be hard to get back. And a template with a long list of plugins needs updates every month, or it becomes a security risk. Ask about those three before you choose on price alone.
How to get a website built, step by step
- Decide what the site has to do. One main job, such as getting quote requests or bookings, makes every other decision easier.
- Gather what you already have: your logo, photos of your work, your services and prices, and any reviews.
- Ask two or three studios for a written quote on the same scope: the pages, the languages and the features.
- Before you sign, check who owns the code and the domain, what the monthly fee covers and what leaving costs.
- Approve the proposal and pay the first half. With us, that's 50% upfront and 50% at launch.
- Review the site before it goes live. Ours take 2 to 4 weeks from the day you approve the proposal.
- After launch, keep it looked after: updates, backups and small changes, whether you do them or a care plan does.
